Your Recovery Phrase
Your recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase) is a list of 12 or 24 words that is the master key to your wallet. Whoever holds it controls the funds, full stop.
What it is (and isn't)
- It is the only way to restore your wallet on a new device.
- Your password is not your recovery phrase. The password unlocks Kache on this device; the recovery phrase restores your wallet anywhere.
Backing it up
- Write it down on paper (or stamp it into metal) and store it somewhere safe and private.
- Consider a second copy in a separate location in case one is lost or damaged.
- Keep the words in order. The order matters.
Never store your recovery phrase as a screenshot, a photo, a note on your phone, or in a password manager synced to the cloud. Never type it into any website. Kache will never ask for it.
If someone asks for it
No legitimate person or service, not Kache, not "support", not an airdrop, not a "wallet sync", will ever need your recovery phrase. Anyone who asks is trying to steal your funds.
Restoring
To restore, install Kache, choose Import wallet, and enter your phrase in order. Your addresses and balances reappear automatically. See Create or Import a Wallet.
If you lose your recovery phrase and lose access to your device, your funds cannot be recovered by anyone. Back it up before you deposit.
